2024-2025 Resources & Reminders
Students use class project for unified fundraiser Taking what they learned in the classroom, Avondale students used their class project to make a real fundraiser for the unified program. For their marketing class semester passion project, Avondale students created a t-shirt fundraiser where the proceeds benefited the unified program at the school. In addition to purchasing a shirt, customers were also able to make a donation to the program directly through the site created. During the fundraiser the group sold over 50 t-shirts and raised over $370. Keaton Moreton, one of the students creating the project said "It helped get us noticed and it also gives us more support". "I had a sense of pride seeing people buy the creation and I also learned how a business is run" Moreton said as well. Ben Beltinck, another student working on the project said "it was teamwork" when it came to developing the slogan for the shirts. The shirt sales will help the unified program in the different activities that are ran through it, including the sports programs and some whole school engagement measures as well.
Avondale Unified hosted the first ever "Tip-Off Night" December 17 as a full start to the basketball season. The event featured 5 schools from around the metro Detroit area coming together to play before heading into the holiday break. There were a total of 4 games played and close over 65 athletes taking part in the event.
Avondale School District is proud to announce that Avondale Unified Sports has been recognized by the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® National Recognition Program as a Unified Champion School—one of only seven public schools in Michigan to receive this honor in 2025, and just two schools in Oakland County.
